To deliver on the Brenthurst Residence mission to banish loneliness, helplessness and boredom, residents are treated to various activities. From daily activities to a weekly “Happy Hour”, themes, events and outings, residents experience stimulation, adventure and excitement, and an opportunity to give and share with others.
Coordinated by Brenthurst’s professional Occupational Therapist, the enjoyable Activity and Therapy programme is customised to ensure each resident enjoys every day to its fullest. Even those folks who don’t want to join in actually enjoy these activities like spectators at a sporting event – watching is therapeutic too.
After breakfast residents typically enjoy an exercise class, like toning and stretching, before completing a devotional and joining singalongs. Every Wednesday morning, residents participate in a church service too.
Residents are encouraged to play memory games, bingo, or board games, after which they can take an accompanied or unaccompanied walk or spend some time in the garden with pets.
After supper, guests are treated to some on-screen entertainment or “soapies”, before they head to bed. Bedtimes are made special by offering hot drinks, biscuits or sandwiches and a tuck in with a back or joint rub to settle the resident in gently.
Residents are further stimulated with activities such as visits from local school children, sing-alongs to songs from yester-year, feature parties and seasonal events, arts and crafts, cookie decorating, visits from our Pets-as-Therapy dog, and much more.
